The Step Up for Students scholarship program is a great way to have a voice in your child’s education and help them thrive academically. Many students benefit from part-time tutoring, especially tutoring that is research-based and customized to your child’s specific needs. Which Step Up for Students Scholarships cover part-time tutoring?
The different Step Up for Students scholarship programs
Step Up for Students covers various scholarship programs, including the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship, the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options, the Personalized Education Program, and the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities. The two scholarships that cover private tutoring are the Personalized Education Program and the Family Scholarship Program for Students with Unique Abilities. Let’s delve a bit deeper into these scholarships and what they cover.
Personalized Education Program (PEP)
The Personalized Education Program is a scholarship designed for students who are not enrolled at a public or private school. It provides approximately $8,000 per student via an education savings account to fund your child’s specific educational needs. These funds can be used for a variety of services and educational expenses, including private tutoring, academic materials, standardized tests, and certain postsecondary institutions, amongst others.
To qualify for PEP, your child must be a Florida resident in grades K-12 and cannot be registered at a full-time public or private school. They also must be at least age five by September 1st of the school year for which you plan to enroll them.
Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities
This scholarship is designed for students who have qualifying disabilities. These disabilities include students with a learning disability, autism, emotional disability, Down Syndrome, and many others. To qualify, your child must be a Florida resident and at least three years old.
Qualifying students receive an average of $10,000 per year and the funds can be used for approved private tutoring organizations, therapies, online learning programs, and many other academic materials and services.
Who benefits from part-time tutoring?
While some students can thrive in school without tutoring, others benefit tremendously from it. Students with dyslexia or reading challenges often excel with Orton Gillingham tutoring. Those with ADHD or autism may benefit from multisensory tutoring, and many neurotypical students benefit from academic skills enrichment catered to their individual needs.
You can use one of Florida’s Step Up for Students Scholarship programs to fund private tutoring and help your child develop much stronger academic skills and self-confidence.
